Alberobello original trullos apartments, Apulia Coast & Gargano hotels & attractions
The Italian region of Apulia (the Italian name is Puglie) is located in the South-East, the heel of the Italian boot.
Alberobello, in Apulia, is the town of the famous Trulli, singular, ancient stone buildings. The Trulli are what's most characteristic about Apulia, something that to an Italian person would immediately conjure up the idea of the Puglie region. They are limestone dwellings, prime examples of drywall construction which employs prehistoric building techniques, although they were built in the 14th century. A trullo, smaller than a modern house, is formed by a circular base and a cone-shaped cupola. Its peculiarity is that it remains cool in Summer and is easily heated in Winter. The largest concentration of Trulli is in the town of Alberobello.
Alberobello, as you can see from the map, is close to the Apulia Coasts: in every direction, the sea is never far away. Not far from Alberobello, in Castellana (province of Bari) there are renowned caves, the biggest cave system in Italy.
Trullidea are modern, serviced apartments inside Trulli in Alberobello, a town set in a glorious landscape filled with olive groves, vineyards, and stone-walled fields and terraces.
Alberobello, in Apulia, the south-eastern tip of Italy, is made famous and enchanting by its unique collection of stone buildings typical of the area, the trulli.
The Hotel Trullidea, made up of 25 trulli dating from the 15th century, is located in Alberobello historic centre.
The hotel has a restaurant, a breakfast room, front desk safety box, fax service.
Staying here is a unique experience, described as "a plunge into a magical and tranquil atmosphere that will flavour your holiday with the taste of a unique past".
You'll stay in the oldest part of the town in comfortable trulli, equipped with modern facilities but maintaining all of their original rustic charm. Comfortable accommodations with bathrooms and kitchenettes are provided.
Each of the 25 trulli comprises one or more double bedrooms, a bathroom and a living room with fully equipped cooking area.
The hotel is easily reachable by the motorway A14.
There is car parking facility near the hotel.
The hotel provides its guests with free shuttle service to and from the Alberobello railway station.
Overall opinion. People who stayed here generally gave this property high ratings on all aspects of their stay. Here are some guests' reviews which well represent many others:
"The receptionist (owner?) was very kind and friendly. The location and atmosphere is remarkable and the trulli (typical alberobello house) has worth to stay. I left my cloths there and he send it to me with no charge. Even if this case is out of account, his hospitality was perfect."
"The Trullidea was "trulli" wonderful! In addition to being very cute and nestled in the midst of the trulli area in Alberobello, the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable, an excellent value for the price."
"Very nice accomodations with five rooms, kitchenette (we used the fridge, not the stove). New bathroom. Services were nice with friendly staff, who walked us a few blocks over to our very cute trullo. Breakfast was ok, not great. Easy to book."
"If you want a holiday with a difference this is the place to stay. The accomodation is basic but clean and in the heart of the trulli village. Very good restaurants within walking distance. We will come again."
"We weren't expecting too much since the price was very reasonable. The rooms were small but we enjoyed staying in an original trullo. I didn't realize the rooms were houses scattered around the area. We had a very nice time & I would recommend it to others."
"This is the only place to stay when you visit la citta dei trulli. Located in the historic center of Alberbello among historic buildings was delightful. We expected a room and upon entering the trulli found a full apartment making our short stay most memorable. The very active area did not present any noise problems in the room. Very clean wonderful place to stay. Staff is bi lingual and very cheerful, helpful and pleasant. Only slight drawback with office hours being 8am - 8pm. Would definetly stay here on the next visit to Alberobello!! Staff was most helpful in arranging train travel."
"You made our honeymoon very very special. Thank you!"
"It was a wonderfully picturesque place. The children loved their bedroom alcoves, and having a garden made all the difference to their ability to concentrate on the sights afterwards."
"A great place in a great location. A fantastic place to visit."
"Best internet reservation system I ever had."

Overall opinion. People who stayed here have generally given this hotel top ratings. These are some typical guests' reviews:
"Alberobello is a quaint town and we were travelling by train. There were no taxis in this town but a simple phone call to the hotel and we were picked up by the manager himself and likewise dropped off on our departure. Fabulous hotel, used to be the convent and is in the middle of the trulli section. Little English spoken but didn't matter. Sunday night the promenade down the main plaza and street leading up to the cathedral was just amazing. All locals as the tourists seem to bus in just for the day's sightseeing this amazing world heritage listed area."
"Good relationship price/quality."
"We really enjoyed our stay in this very nicely renovated old Monastery. The staff was very nice and helpful and the location is excellent, being close to shops and restaurants. The rooms are spacious and very clean, though sparsely decorated. It certainly was well worth the price we paid and we would stay here again. I highly recommend Sant'Antonio for a very pleasant stay in Alberobello. We loved this charming little town. We had one of our best Italian meals at a restaurant near the hotel. The restaurant, La Locanda del Gallo, is housed in a 4000-year-old Trulli house and the whole experience was incredible. Be prepared for lots of tourists in town during the day. Dozens of tour busses drop people off from morning to early evening. Many people still live in the Trulli houses in town. The shop owners cater to the tourists, but a lot of the people seem weary of the tourists in their town taking pictures of their houses."
"The hotel has been beautifully renovated - lovely spacious room overlooking landscaped courtyard. Excellent value. Travelling alone, the only real omission was a hotel bar, even if it just served cappuccinos. Very attractive town - trulli houses in abundance just down the road, restaurants and shops nearby. Access to Bari and spectacular caves at Castellana from station. Unusual area with pretty countryside - trulli farmhouses, vines, olives, almonds growing. Market day on Thursday."
"Well up to 3* standard and in a good position for visiting Alberobello and the local areas."
"We enjoyed ourselves very much at trulli town."
"A very helpful and friendly staff, who made us welcome. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Alberobello."
"A beautifully renovated hotel with modern bathrooms and fittings and large spacious bedrooms. Excellent location at the top of the pedestrian zone."
"Excellent location. Private car-park available. Immaculately clean and tastefully refurbished. Friendly and helpful staff. Good inexpensive restaurant close by. Adequate continental breakfast with very good coffee! Priced appropriately. Recommended without hesitation."
"We enjoyed our visit very much, and found the employees very friendly and helpful. Although we don't speak Italian, we always managed to communicate, and usually through the efforts of the staff. Lovely visit."

Back to Top Alberobello, Trulli, the Apulia region
The main town of Apulia is Bari. It has an outstanding old quarter, which also includes the splendid basilica of St. Nicholas, saint patron of the city. Recently new life was injected into Bari's cultural scene, due to new management of the Petruzzelli opera theatre. In the surroundings of Bari are several places of interest: Canosa di Puglia, with many and remarkable Roman remains; Bitonto and Trani, with beautiful cathedrals (the latter overlooking the sea); Altamura, with a 13th century cathedral of the Virgin Mary; Castel del Monte, with a castle built between 1240 and 1250 on an octagonal plan with characteristic octagonal towers; Gioia del Colle, with its 11th century castle; Conversano, with a Norman keep; and Molfetta, with its 12-13th century cathedral. Lecce is another major town of Apulia, arguably the most beautiful, considered the capital of Italian baroque. Much of Lecce's current appearance dates back to the 17th century when, thanks to mercantile money and counter-reformation zeal, the town underwent a process of transformation - culminating in the birth of a major centre of baroque art in Europe. Most of Lecce's buildings and houses were given a glorious baroque veneer of putti, gargoyles, garlands, stone cirlicues and wreaths of exuberant decorations. Examples of this baroque style are Basilica di Santa Croce, Palazzo del Governo, Cathedral, Palazzo del Seminario, Chiesa del Rosario and Porta Rudiae. Monopoli boasts an ancient cathedral built in 1107 and restored in the 17th century. Apulia is an ancient land, still containing Roman remains, such as an amphitheatre in Foggia, an arch, mausoleum, bridge, many funerary buildings and a 6th century basilica in Canosa di Puglia. Greek ruins are to be found in places like Egnazia and Lecce. But what's most characteristic about the region, something that to an Italian person would immediately conjure up the idea of the Puglie, is the Trulli of Alberobello, which we described above. Many of the coastal towns are very picturesque: whitewashed villages with a Greek feel to them. The staples of Apulian cuisine are essential condiments and herbs (capers, basil, oregano and olive oil), hard and soft wheat pastas, typical Mediterranean vegetables and local cheeses.
