Alloggi Barbaria Hotel in Venice

Venice budget & cheap hotels, & B&Bs

Alloggi Barbaria Hotel is a very inexpensive, good value hotel 10 minutes from St. Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge, a few steps from the monumental church of St. John and Paul.
It is a hotel with a friendly atmosphere and a pretty breakfast terrace, in a quiet neighbourhood, an ideal starting point for visiting the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello.
All rooms have en-suite bathroom with shower, air conditioning, hair-dryer, direct dial telephone, minibar, colour TV, indipendent heating, safe.
A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"This is a wonderful B&B in a quiet area. As a single traveler, I was very happy to find a single room without a single surcharge. I was welcomed by name when I arrived. I felt very safe in the location, the management recommended excellent restaurants and shops. I was very pleased with the room, the service and the location. From the Piazza de Roma, take a vaporetto to the Odepale civile. Turn left and walk along the water until you reach the end, turn right and walk down the alley. You'll see the blue flag with the circle of gold stars, and you're there! I would recommend this to any of my friends heading for Venice."
"Comparing the low price, everythig is fine! Althoug this hotel is very small two stars hotel, there are no inconvenience for us. Rather than the expensive 3 or 4 stars hotels in Rome, Frenze and Milano takn in the last trip, this hotel is much better for us in deed. We will take again when we get back there again."
"Located in the north area of Castello, in a quiet neighbourhood, away from the "conqueror" tourist groups, and only 50m from the Ospedale station. You will have the unique chance to see another face of Venice, quiet, with locals living their regular lives and with a splendid view on the see. Price was excellent, for a clean room, completely new bathroom. All rooms have view in a backyard full of flowers with birds singing all the time. At breakfast (served on a cute 3 table terrace) we had one of the best coffees during our 1 week stay in Northern Italy. As it has only 6 rooms, you feel part of the family. Highly recommended!!!"
"Excellent. I looked for a good while for a reasonably priced room in Venice and found exactly what I wanted. Furthermore I found the accommodation to be of a high standard and the staff particularly helpful. Location is perfect. I would recommend this to anyone!"
"The Alloggi Barbaria was great and a pretty good bargain! It is really quick and easy to get to from the Vaporetto stop (a blessing when you are lugging luggage), in a quiet residential area and just minutes walking from stores and Piazza San Marcos. The room was very spacious with simple but comfortable furniture and a very nice tiled bathroom that has obviously been recently redone. The room/bathroom even had a hair dryer, a small refrigerator, and a safe built into the wall. The owners are a really nice and somewhat shy older couple. They have a small terrace that although it only had a view of the building accross, it was great to have breakfast in the fresh air. Their breakfast was orange juice, great coffee with warm milk on the side, rolls, croisants, toast, and butter/jelly. We really enjoy our stay here and definitely recommend it and would stay here again."

General price range per room, including breakfast
Single rooms: 50 - 120 euros
Double & triple rooms: 80 - 150 euros

"Verry kindly persons. Verry local place."
"Full marks Locanda Herion! The hotel is spotlessly clean and well-kept. The staff were genuinely friendly and couldn't have done more for us. The location of the hotel is terrific too - near transport, great restaurants, good shops ('real' ones as well as those catering for visitors), markets etc. I will definitely stay at this hotel when I next visit Venice, and recommend it to other users of this site."
"I am very satisfied with this hotel services. Especially, a woman at the reception desk was very kind! And she told me the nice bar to eat breakfast. If I go to Venice again, I will certainly go to 'Locanda Herion' again! Thank you!"

Locanda Le Vele Bed & Breakfast in Venice Bed&Breakfast Locanda Le Vele is a good value town house suite in the historical heart of Venice, in walking distance to St. Mark's Square, Rialto Bridge and the railway station.

Locanda Le Vele Bed & Breakfast in Venice All rooms and suites have en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, internet connection, satellite TV, minibar, direct-dial telephone, safe. Breakfast is served in the room.
A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"I booked Locanda Le Vele after checking many other locations. Honestly, that was my best decision since long. Very good (no empty promises) and fast reply by the innkeepers to my e-mails, easy to find location (3 minutes from ACTV stop), central but very quiet location in a little alleyway right by a canal. The 6 rooms (just watch the pictures) are spacious, stylish to perfection and have canal view. And.., maybe you are lucky enough to get the suite (like I did), you will be just astonished by that. The perfect location for a stay in Venice. Thank you again, Daniel & Manuel."
"We have an marvelous time staying at Locanda Le Vele. Place is located in the center of Venice, in walking distance from all points of attraction. Very clean, newly renovated . Personal was friendly and fluent in English. It was very easy to find. Directions from the website were accurate. If by any chance we have to come back to Venice, Locanda Le Vele definitely will be the place to stay."
"We enjoyed our stay! The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. They recommended a nearby restaurant & made reservations for us - the food was excellent! Our room (large room for 4 people) was exactly as pictured on the website - neat, clean, comfortable and beautifully furnished. Very quiet all nite until 6 - 7 AM when a few boats powered up in the canal (not really loud but enough to wake some people). It is a B&B so don't expect the variety of services like a hotel, but to me this is not a problem. I would definitely stay at this location again!"
"Very welcoming owners. The room our children were given as a triple room was wonderful - very , very large with a balcony overlooking a quiet canal. Average marks re public areas as there was only a small reception area but we did not expect otherwise. All the rooms were spotlessly clean and the air conditioning very efficient. Good central location easily reached from the Grand Canal. Would definitely stay there again if back in Venice."

General price range per room or suite
Double, triple, quadruple rooms & suites for 5 & 6 people: 50 - 250 euros

It is a family run hotel, recently renovated.

A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"The hotel should have three stars instead of one. We know, we have travelled a lot."
"Friendly, nice, and good value - esp for Venice."
"Excellent location, staff and service. Excellent relationship price/quality! We enjoyed our stay at Henry's a lot."
"We were both extremely pleased with our accommodation. We loved the area: it was close to the train station, but still felt more "authentic" than a place near to Piazza San Marco. We found the room to be clean and quiet, and were very happy with the service. We are recommending this place to some friends who will be visiting Venice in September."
"Accurate description of property - delightful refurbishment which was more than we had expected. Excellent value for money. Lovely part of Venice - full of character and away from the tourist masses yet very convenient. Well served for shops, restaurants and cafes. Loved it and will return."

Rio Hotel in Venice Hotel Rio is a very good value hotel in the heart of Venice historical centre, a few steps from St. Mark's Square, in the lively Campo S.S. Filippo e Giacomo, a small square few yards from the vaporetto boat of San Zaccaria.
Buffet breakfast is served at the cosy Caffè Europa, located on the same Campo: the ideal place for a quiet break after the crowds of St. Mark's Square, Caffè Europa is also where local gourmets regularly gather for top wines tastings.
Most rooms have en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV, telephone, minibar, safe and hairdryer.
Some of them were occupied by the great composer Antonio Vivaldi, who lived here.
A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"What a great surprise. A fantastic little hotel within a block and a half of Saint Mark's. A little had to find and it would help if there were more detailed information on how to more cheaply go from the train station to the hotel(it cost us $60 for what we later learned we could do for $9). Great resturants ajoining the hotel. Excellent trip to Murano. The near proximity to Saint Marks was the predominant selling point. We are very glad we did not take some advise to stay out of town. Again a great little hotel that is a very pleasant surprise."
"Good location."
"Central location and close to vaporetto stop. Rooms very clean...we had 3 together on the same floor. A bit loud at night, but hey - we were on holiday in Venice! Rates in line with those of other local hotels. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. We would go there again."
"We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The location is strategically perfect. The room we had was brand new and clean after renovation. Breakfast is buffet-the best we had in Italy."

Single & double rooms: 50 - 150 euros
Triple & quadruple rooms: 100 - 200 euros

Ca' San Trovaso Hotel in Venice Hotel Ca' San Trovaso is in a central but quiet position, 15 minutes' walk from Piazza San Marco, 5 minutes from Madonna della Salute, Gallerie dell'Accademia and Museo Guggenheim.

The hotel has a spacious "altana", a typical Venetian roof terrace from which one can enjoy a magnificent view, which in the summer is a solarium.
Recently renovated and elegant, the hotel has rooms with precious fittings and smart accessories.
All rooms have en-suite bathroom with shower; some rooms have canal views.
A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"We had the most wonderful stay at Locando San Trovaso. Do not be put off by the location. All the main areas of interest are within very easy walking distance. We really loved the Taverna San Trovaso as recommended by the hotel. There is a grocery store and great wine bar close by. There are two vaporetta stops within a couple of minutes walk; one is particularly useful for the water bus to the airport. Breakfast is adequate, but for spotlessly clean accomodation with excellent bathroom facilities, helpful staff, convenient yet tranquil location it offers very good value for money."
"The location and room were great."
"Good, clean, reasonably-priced accommodation in a quiet and convenient area of Venice. The Locanda San Trovaso's staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed sitting in the "altana" on warm Venetian evenings."

Bed&Breakfast Rooms Serena is few yards from the Grand Canal, in a characteristic area in the centre of Venice, Santa Croce, easily reached from the city's main terminals: S. Lucia Central Railway Station and Piazzale Roma.
A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"A very nice place to stay close to vaporetto (water bus) stop and not that far from station either. Calm surroundings. The family who run it were lovely. Might be a bit hard find but look for Corte Cazza and you'll find it straightaway."
"The location was just perfect for us as we were traveling by train. The canal bus stop was so close, too, and a restaurant recommended by our hostess was 2 minutes away. One funny thing: the hostess was very friendly with two adorable kids. She just chattered away like we were old friends. Unfortunately, she speaks very little English, and we speak very little Italian. That didn't stop her from talking a blue streak. Somehow managed to understand what we each wanted to say. We thought it was a riot."
"The owners were remarkable and we had a lovely stay thanks to their kindness and generosity. I would recommend them to anyone going to Venice. Great location too - the map could be clearer to read, though!"

A few words about Venice

Venice was once one of the four great Naval Republics of Italy, along with Genoa, Pisa and Amalfi. Venice's immense maritime power was covering the whole of the eastern Mediterranean. Because of its astonishing beauty the city was named the Serenissima Repubblica di San Marco. An old tradition, still repeated today, sees the wedding between Venice and the sea, with the Doge sailing from the Canal Grande out to the open sea and casting a wedding ring into the waves, amidst a pageantry parade of boats and gondolas decorated with Venetian flags and insignia.

HOTEL REVIEWS BY GUESTS

Accademia B&B

A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"We will probably go back to Venice, and if we do we will surrely stay at B&B Accademia."
"This was an excellent property in an ideal situation - a stone's throw from the Accademia vaporetto stop. It appears to have been recently refurbished to a very high standard. The owner is welcoming and very helpful. The only two disadvantges of are the noise level at night - it is on a main route to the Accademia bridge (but one got reasonably used to it after the first night), and the lack of air conditioning which would mitigate against a stay at the height of summer. I would happily return here and have no hesitation in recommending it."
"My wife and I stayed here over Memorial Day Weekend. The B&B is right on the water overlooking the Accademia Gallery and the Grand Canal. The continental breakfast, though light, was excellent and the rooms were incredible. If you want to stay on the canal, at a reasonable price, and within walking distance of everything I highly reccomend staying at the Accademia B&B. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would go back given the opportunity."
"We were delighted with Accademia Bed and Breakfast. It is conveniently situated near the Accademia Bridge, on the Dorsoduro side. It's an easy walk through to the San Marco piazza - with all the action / crowds you could want; you can almost touch the Accademia from the breakfast terrace (if you have very long arms!); and it's a short walk to the Peggy Guggenheim museum, the Cinni and Santa Maria delle Salute. It's also a few minutes walk to attractive areas where there were few tourists, even during the first weekend of July. The rooms looked as if they had been redecorated recently and we liked the style; some character but not fussy (unlike photos we saw on many other websites). It was a treat to eat breakfast out on the terrace. At least one reviewer mentioned night time noise as a problem; we closed our shutters to keep out mosquitoes and were not disturbed at all. There is no air conditioning, but the large upright fan in our room blew out cool air (and there were other fans stategically sited around the place). The proprietor has a good working knowledge of English and he was very helpful. Our outward flight was diverted and we landed at Marco Polo at 5 am instead of 9.30 pm! When we telephoned, he said he would come and let us in at whatever time we arrived. The price seemed reasonable for what we considered to be pleasant surroundings. (We opted to take a room without private facilities. We were sharing a bathroom with one other room; only once was it occupied when we wanted to use it during our 3 night stay). The worst we can say about the place is that green carpet on the first flight of stairs up to the reception area was showing signs of age, and the window shutters and wardrobe doors were a bit stiff! We highly recommend the Accademia B & B and hope to be able to return ourselves before too long."
"Very nice location with good accesibility for all Venice, very clean."

Trinità B&B

A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"This was a really nice place with a very welcoming and pleasant young owner. Small in size, very quiet, very, very friendly and cheerful - clean and nice. Highly recommended - I wish there were more small places like this in Italy. The owner is a really nice guy. After our bad experience in Milan this was a pleasure."
"Sandro was very nice, molto gentile, tres gentille, sehr nett! He picked us up from the bus station in his boat the night we arrived, because it was too late for the vaporetto. Breakfast - with Sandro making cappuccino, warming brioches, telling us about Venice, and other guests (hello Richard and Helma from Austria and the young couple from Belgium!) all together eating at the table - was convivial and interesting. Sandro's warmth and friendliness created a congenial atmosphere. The rooms were generally light and comfortable and had interesting views over a garden and red-tiled roofs. The location was excellent - right in the middle of the Cannaregio, our favourite part of Venice, near the vaporetto, the station and Piazzale Roma and with many wonderful eating places on the doorstep."
"Everything was exellent. Sandro was a very friendly owner."
"We had a great time in a familiar and warm atmosphere. Grazie, Sandro!"

Alloggi Marinella B&B

A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"Well placed in the student quarter of Venice, there are some great benefits to this boarding house: > Plenty of cheap restaurants around > Quiet location > Near buses and trains, so luggage can be moved easily > Children friendly park over the canal, so kids can have a fun time in between site seeing. > One ground floor bedroom as well. Next to breakfast room, so may not suit everyone, but ideal if you wish to avoid stairs. The only thing that puts me of recommending it is that it might be more difficult to book again next time we are in Venice! "
"We were able to spend pleasant time. I like this B&B very much! I recommend "Alloggi Marinella" to person who visit Venezia. Of course, I would like to stay at "Alloggi Marinella", when visiting Venezia again."
"Excellent and affordable hotel. Rooms are clean and the hotel is in a convenient location. Personnel is very welcoming. Next time I go to Venice, I will stay there for sure. Thank you for a wonderful time!"
"Alloggi Marinella made our stay pleasurable in every way. It is a very charming B&B...beautiful room! My husband and I loved it. The host was extremely affectionate and just wonderful! There is a decent breakfast! It is close to the Train station and the bus station (bus to and from the airport stops here), so very convenient when you have to tow luggage and what have you. It is about a 25 minute walk from St. Mark's Square and Academia, but then its a beautiful walk, you'll enjoy it! And Venice does entail a lot of walking anyway. You could always take the vaporetti from the train station for the tour of the grand canal and hop off at any destination. I strongly recommend a stay at his B&B. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Venice and definitely suggest this place to anyone who might be visiting in the future!"
