Venice four stars hotels
Hotel Metropole is a very special and unique four stars hotel centrally located in the heart of historic Venice, 3 minutes' walk along the waterfront from St. Mark's Square.
The hotel's building is of historical importance: this is the site where Antonio Vivaldi composed and played his music, between 1703 and 1740. It later became a guesthouse, where Sigmund Freud stayed once.
The hotel's position is superb, and the views the hotel commands, overlooking the city and the lagoon where it meets the Grand Canal, are astounding.
There is also a very unusual entrance on the canal, for the thrill of stepping straight from a boat into the hotel, and for a trouble-free arrival by water-taxi.
This amazing building has been restored to its former splendour. The interiors are as Baroque as can be: gilded chandeliers, clocks and mirrors, bronze cherubs and an eclectic 2000-pieces collection of period fans, tea pots, musical instruments, corkscrews and Italy's largest collection of crucifixes. It is a popular rendezvous for Venetians as well as hotel guests.
The hotel has a breakfast room, a restaurant, a Venetian garden. Breakfast includes cakes, fruit salads, cereals, Italian cheeses.
The 73 bedrooms are furnished each with a unique collection of antique features (one room won the 1st prize at the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs), and provide contemporary comfort in an antique setting.
All rooms have air conditioning, colour satellite television, radio, mini bar, hair dryer, safe.
All rooms overlook the lagoon, the canal, or the old Venetian hotel garden.
A summary of typical guests' reviews:
"This is a fantastic hotel - the photos on the web site do not do it justice! It is in a fantastic location (main vaporetti stop and only 100 meters or so from P. San Marco) and towards Castello (which is a little quieter than the main tourist areas). We had a room facing the private garden at the back (where the restaurant is) although most rooms face the grand/side canal. Our room was superbly decorated with antiques, was large (separate bed/lounge areas) with a very large bath room. We paid about 300 EUR a night (for a double) in July and it was worth every cent!"
"Very nice hotel, very helpful staff, my wife even got a champagne breakfast on her birthday. Top stuff."
"A special birthday was celebrated in style at the Metropole. Charming staff. They even provided Prosecco, a candle and a flower at the Birthday breakfast! Room not large but charming. Very well appointed bathroom. Excellent restaurant too, though not cheap! A fine hotel in a wonderful city."
"A good quality hotel, with excellent facilities and courteous staff. Food was expensive and not a lot of it, when the "special" was ordered. Otherwise it was of a high standard. Position of hotel was excellent."
"The hotel was great. We received a junior suite for the price of a double room. The staff were very helpful in helping us arrange continuing travel on to Croatia."
"The staff was excellent. The room was very clean and comfortable, worth the price. (considering it was Venice and an extremely convenient location.) Enhanced the whole visit."
"This was an excellent hotel. It's just down the walk a few hundred feet from the Danielli, but for a third of the price. Recommend to all."
"We really enjoyed our stay at the Metropole. The one dinner we ate in the hotel restaurante was excellent; the bar area was very pleasant, and the service was fantastic. My wife and I have already talked about returning to Venice and to the Metropole. Thank you."
"We were immediately impressed with the warm welcome we received from the reception staff. From then on our stay was very pleasant, and we were very pleased with our choice of hotel. All the staff without exception seem to have been trained to look after the guest's every comfort. I would highly recommend the Metropole to anyone going to Venice."
